About safety
The University of Hradec Králové focuses on ensuring appropriate environment for all people who are part of the university community. All students and staff deserve a safe environment without discrimination.
The aim of these webpages is support of institutional environment that would help to prevent inappropriate behaviour towards the members of the university community and provide more detailed information about possible solutions and help for people who encounter inappropriate behaviour. The University of Hradec Králové defines standards of the safe environment at the UHK and confirms the permanent commitment of preventing inappropriate behaviour within the university community by means of the below mentioned principles resulting from the UHK Code of Ethics.

Safe environment at the UHK
The University of Hradec Králové defines the standards of safe environment at the UHK and confirms the permanent commitment of preventing inappropriate behaviour within the university community by means of the below mentioned principles resulting from the UHK Code of Ethics.
Principles of conduct that help to build a safe environment and that result from the UHK Code of Ethics.
- We reject and prevent any kind of actions that would violate the human rights and freedoms , laws or other legal regulations, internal regulations and other standards of the UHK.
- We show mutual respect during interaction with others.
- We reject all forms of intolerance and discrimination.
- We make sure that the principle of equal opportunities is complied with.
- We offer support for minority and disadvantaged groups.
- We try to prevent the emergence of barriers that would cause exclusion and inequality, eventually we actively work to remove them.
- We strictly reject attitudes and behaviour that could be considered as sexual harassment and gender- based violence.
- We take a critical approach to inappropriate or unethical behaviour.
- We educate the members of our university community to support inclusion and diversity.
- We ensure institutional resolutions of inappropriate behaviour within the university community.
- We take corrective measures in case of behaviour that was considered to be violation of the UHK Code of Ethics.
Further information and contacts
Services of the UHK Point Centre and the helpline are free of charge and provided with a guarantee of confidentiality. The professional staff of the centre and the crisis helpline can help you find further solutions to your situation (mediation, information, who to contact, anonymous consultations with specialists upon request, etc.) Neither the ombudswoman nor the Code of Ethics are part of the UHK Point centre.
You can also make use of the services of the UHK Point where you can find psychological and therapeutic support.
- The workers of the psychotherapeutic support centre offer the first contact and consultation for free.
- The first step you can take in emergency and demanding situations that do not present risk of endangering your life or your surroundings, is to contact the university psychologist, psychotherapist Mgr. Damian Kastner or the psychotherapist Mgr. Zuzana Průchová.
You can consult the situation with the UHK ombuds.
- If you are not sure what to do in your situation, you can contact the ombudswoman who is bound by confidentiality.
- The ombudswoman also investigates the reported complaints made by the UHK students and staff in relation to inappropriate behaviour or violation of ethical principles at the UHK.
- Part of the ombudswoman´s work is to help to identify the possible solutions in accordance with the needs of the people involved and at the same time in accordance with the university procedures, conduct mediations and provide space for dialogue.
If you decide to report inappropriate behaviour towards you or inappropriate behaviour that you have witnessed, there is the UHK Ethics Committee that will deal with your complaint.
- All people involved are obliged to maintain confidentiality.
- Your complaint will be handled very discreetly, with a guarantee of confidentiality and sensitive elaboration of the problematic situation.
What to do if

It is such behaviour that is characterized by unequal, unfair and restrictive treatment that does not reflect mutual respect. The mentioned examples serve for orientation, and it is not an exhaustive list. Some other types of inappropriate behaviour that are contrary to the UHK Code of Ethics may occur in the university environment.

If you cannot tell the person that they are behaving inappropriately (direct confrontation may be very difficult, so it is OK if you are looking for other solutions), you can contact the ombudswoman or make a complaint to the UHK Ethics committee (in writing or electronically). You can find the contacts for the ombudswoman here and details about the Committee activities can be found at the website of the UHK Ethics Committee .

It may be very difficult to respond, and every person may feel a different level of stress in such a situation. However, if you are aware that the behaviour you noticed was not all right and you want to help to prevent it in the future, you can choose one of the following possibilities:
